The Music House

A house built around a room that has to sound right — and a climate that has to work without a compressor.

The living space doubles as a rehearsal room, so the mass and the timber linings do acoustic work as well as thermal work. Glazing is kept north and shaded to a June sun angle.

Almost all the structural timber was salvaged. Finishes were specified free of volatile organic compounds throughout, which matters more in a room people sing in.

The sun rises every day, the wind blows, plants grow and water flows.
